CULTURE MUST BE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE

OPEN EXHIBITION “TOUCHES” IN ZAPROKUL

The exhibition “TOUCHES”, by famous Yugoslav and world sculptors of the 20th century, was officially opened in the crowded Gallery of the Institute . Numerous visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with their form and materials by touching the sculptures.

Welcoming remarks were made by Slavica Trifunović, Assistant Minister of Information and Media of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, who pointed out on this occasion that “coming to such an exhibition is like coming to someone’s home, a space where collectors’ commitment and sensibility are revealed.” The greatest feature of this exhibition is the possibility of the exhibits being touched. ”

Marko Krstić, director of Zaprokul, referred to the data on the availability of cultural events and content for people with disabilities, and sent a message to all cultural institutions to take this topic more seriously. “We want to affirm cultural values for all our citizens, so this unique exhibition is adapted to both blind and partially sighted people.”

Vladimir Tomčić, art historian and owner of the collection, donated a sculpture to the Association of the Blind of Serbia, noting that “our fellow citizens are always with us, they are the same as us, and they do not always have the right opportunity to access cultural events.”

Boris Dončić addressed the Association of the Blind of Serbia, thanking the organizers for this wonderful occasion because there are about 12,000 people with visual impairments in Serbia and many things are often not available to them. However, people from culture are trying to make spaces accessible to us where works of art are, and this exhibition is an important step towards greater accessibility. ”

The audience was led through the exhibition by Milica Jovanović, the editor of the Zaprokula gallery program, who presented the exhibits in an interesting way.

The sculptures are part of a carefully collected collection privately owned by Mr. Vladimir Tomcic, an art historian.
