Book Launch Event for “France and Serbia: Centuries of Friendship” in Novi Sad

The book launch event for the monograph “France and Serbia: Centuries of Friendship” published by the Center for Study in Cultural Development was held on Friday, October 23, in Matica Srpska in Novi Sad. The author of this rich dual-language monograph is Alexis Troude, a professor at the University in Versailles and a leading expert on the history of international and cultural relations between Serbia and France. The book focuses on the historical ties between the two countries. It shows special attention to the persons and cultural heritage significant for the relations of the two states and peoples.

Among the speakers at the event were Dragan Stanić, president of Matica Srpska; Vladimir Marinković, manager of the French Institute in Novi Sad; Vuk Vukićević, director of the Center for Study in Cultural Development; Nenad Krstić, professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad; Vladimir Kolarić, editor of the monograph; and Alexis Troude.

The presenters stressed the significance of the revitalization of Serbian-French relations that have a long history and are of undoubtable importance to both countries. They pointed out the contribution of the book by Alexis Troude, who created a reliable and accessible account of the history of these relations. They also pointed out that the event was held in Matica Srpska, one of the critical institutions in Serbian culture’s history.

The previous book launch “France and Serbia: Centuries of Friendship” was held on October 22 in the Yugoslav Film Archive in Belgrade in the presence of the director of the French Institute in Serbia Manuel Bouard, and the book reviewers Mile Bjelajac and Aleksandra Kolaković.

Also, the Center for Study in Cultural Development hosted an exhibition about French-Serbian relations, which contained panels and archival footage relating to the subject.
