INSTITUTE HOST OF EGMUS

The Institute for the Study of Cultural Development hosted this year’s plenary meeting of EGMUS, a European group that brings together institutions in charge of official statistics on museums in 35 European countries. Due to the pandemic, the meeting that was supposed to be held in Belgrade, was realized online on March 8 and 9, 2022. The meeting was attended by more than 30 participants during both days. Statistical reports from 10 countries were presented, primarily related to museum visits, including their digital platforms during the pandemic.

Data from our country were presented by Biljana Jokić, researcher and one of the leaders of the e-Culture project – a national database of institutions and associations in culture, which is the source of official statistics on museums. In addition to the situation in museums in some European countries, the meeting discussed digital participation in museums, as well as key methodological changes in the field of museum statistics, which is the main topic of regular annual EGMUS meetings. The representative of EUROSTAT, Frederike Oehler, introduced the participants to the development of cultural statistics in this important European association, with which EGMUS is directly connected. The Compendium of Cultural Policies was also presented with a focus on the possibilities of cooperation with EGMUS.
