Serbia and Cuba are united by the same spiritual and cultural values

With the presence of ambassadors of many countries in Serbia, dignitaries from the diplomatic corps and famous figures from cultural life, in the pleasant atmosphere of the Gallery of the Institute  (Zaproкul), a solemn celebration of 120 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Cuba was held. Symbolically, on the 4th of November, on the day of the reception of the written congratulation of the King of Serbia, Aleksandar Obrenović, addressed to Tomás Estrada Palma, the elected President of the Republic of Cuba, on the occasion of his inauguration, diplomatic relations between our two friendly countries began. By marking this important jubilee, Zaprokul and the Cuban embassy wanted to highlight the importance of preserving cultural ties.
Marko Krstić, Director of the Institute, addressed the large audience, pointing out that regardless of the differences between our two countries, we are united by the same spiritual and cultural values, through the permeation, constant development and improvement of which we create new cultural ties on the basis of diplomatic and friendly relations between Serbia and Cuba.
His Excellency Gustavo Trista del Todo, ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, spoke about the culture and history of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Cuba, and our joint results in creating a new, more humane society. Thanking the Institute for the exceptional and wholehearted help in organizing this event, he concluded: “the cooperation between our two countries has always been productive both in the economy and in culture.” Culture is the soul of the nation, it is the basis of all our relations…”
Then Mr. Stanko Blagojević, assistant minister of culture for international relations and European integration in the field of culture, spoke, who emphasized in his speech that: “the deep mutual understanding of our two peoples is based on the libertarian tradition, love for freedom, independence and libertarian ideals.” ”
On this occasion, the Director of the Institute, Mr. Krstić, presented the Ambassador of Cuba, Mr. Trist del Todo, with a gift plaque with the image of a griffin, a mythical creature that is the trademark of the Institute, and a T-shirt with the logo of the event, in honor of the friendship and diplomatic relations between our two countries.
In the continuation of the program, Marko Terzić, senior curator of the 21 October Museum from Kragujevac and author of the guest exhibition “ČE.59.KG” on the occasion of Che Guevara’s visit to Yugoslavia, pointed out that the image of this great man constantly drives us to search for a better and more just society in to the time of idealessness.
