Tribune in honor of the jubilee of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade

As part of the celebration of six decades since the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade (1961), which involved several state institutions, an inspiring panel discussion was held in the full Atrium of the National Library of Serbia on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 1 p.m. which was spoken by: writer and acting Director of the Institute for cultural development research Marko Krstić, and historian and professor Predrag J. Markovic, with the presentation of material from the rich archive of Film News.

The welcoming speech was given by the Acting the manager of the National Library, Vladimir Pištalo, who emphasized the importance of the Non-Aligned Movement for the ideology, state policy and culture of our country.

Marko Krstić, acting  director of the Institute referred to the influence of the cultural policy of that time on modern society. Looking at the history of Serbia from a broader angle, he pointed out that it has always been non-aligned, that Serbs are non-aligned as old as their statehood, and how even today with great personal renunciation and sacrifice one can be non-aligned, which is a way to revive and re-actualize the idea. Non-aligned movements.

Professor Predrag J. In his address, Markovic pointed out the importance of the idea of ​​the Non-Aligned Movement in the perception of the identity of the people and the nostalgic pride that marks the memory of that time. An important lesson of the idea of ​​the non-aligned, for Professor Markovic, is openness to the world as the only path of development, and we should definitely keep that heritage.
